Amazon Prime forced to issue warning to viewers following alarming reaction to popular series

Prime Video executives have issued a serious warning to subscribers in response to reports of toxic behavior from fans of a particularly popular coming-of-age series.

The third and final chapter of the beloved series premiered back in July, and it has captivated audiences ever since.

Created by author Jenny Han, the show made its debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2022.

The series stars lead actress Lola Tung as Belly Conklin, a teenager who finds herself caught in a romantic entanglement with two brothers she has known her entire life, who now view her differently from her tomboyish childhood.

The brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, are portrayed by the charismatic duo Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno.

In addition to first-time love, the series delves into themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, parental relationships, and enduring female friendships, all set against the backdrop of a vibrant East Coast summer.

If you haven't guessed yet, the series in question is, of course, The Summer I Turned Pretty.

The show is adapted from Han's book of the same name and has long been a favorite among fans of romantic teen dramas.

However, following the staggered release of the final season, with three episodes yet to air, dedicated TSITP fans have been given a firm warning by the show's executives.

As fans become more invested in which brother Belly might choose, the actors involved have increasingly faced online criticism.

Fans have not only been demanding answers from Tung, Briney, and Casalegno, but some have reportedly sent threatening messages, including death threats, as reported by Metro.

Urging fans to 'act normal', Prime Video executives posted a message on the show's official Instagram account.

"The summer we started acting normal online," the message began. "The show isn’t real but the people portraying the characters are."

A similar warning was issued last month, with representatives of the streaming service reminding fans: "We have a ZERO tolerance policy for bullying and hate speech. If you engage in any of the following, you will be banned."

The spokesperson also outlined the 'community guidelines', which include prohibitions against 'hate speech or bullying', 'targeting our cast or crew', and 'harassing or doxxing members of the community'.

Han, who also serves as the series' showrunner and executive producer, shared this crucial message online as well.

"I know fans of the show are passionate and no one has bad intent, but even in jest, posting images of a woman being slapped or choked is not funny," the author wrote.
